Firefighters and Red Cross volunteers have been busy of late as four house fires in less than a week temporarily displaced 13 people, including eight children.
No one was injured in any of the blazes.
According to a Red Cross press release, a fire in Ridgeville on December 8 destroyed a home on Joe Felder Road, leaving two adults temporarily homeless. Firefighters from the Givhans Fire Department responded to the blaze. Red Cross volunteers arrived on the scene to distribute comfort kits, help arrange for temporary housing and financial assistance.
On Dec. 10, a kitchen fire severely damaged a home on Reed Street in St. George. The Red Cross arrived on scene to distribute comfort kits and provide financial assistance to help replace food lost in the fire. In addition, the Red Cross provided referrals to partner agencies for the family of three, including two children, according to the release.
Another fire Saturday at a home on Palm Street in Reevesville left nine people, including seven children, temporarily homeless, according to another Red Cross press release.
Red Cross volunteers arrived on the scene to provide a family of nine temporary emergency lodging and financial assistance to help replace the food and clothing that were lost in the fire, as well as comfort kits filled with personal emergency supplies, according to the release.
A family of three living in the same home received financial assistance to help replace lost food and clothing, along with comfort. Families were referred to community partners of the American Red Cross.
Tuesday night, Dec. 13, a mother and her daughter lost their home on Langley Street in Summerville to a house fire. Again, Red Cross volunteers were called to the scene to distribute comfort kits and arrange for temporary housing for the family of two.
Red Cross will follow up to assure that the long-term needs of all the fire victims have been met.
