On Nov. 21, a historic event for the Jewish Community of Summerville will take place. The first Jewish religious service and gathering of the Summerville Chavurah will take place.
This is a first for the Summerville Jewish Community and transcends Jewish belief systems. While the event and Chavurah are sponsored under the auspices of Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim of the Reform congregation, participants of all Jewish disciplines Reform, Conservative or Orthodox are welcome.
The inagural meting of the Summerville/North area Chavurah will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. There will be a short Havdalah Service followed by a social/fellowship get together.
Havdalah welcomes the week by closing the Sabbath. The Havdalah will be led by Donna Spencer. Doris and Roy Meyers have agreed to open their home for this special evening.
Their home is located at 116 W. 5th South Street, Unit B in Summerville.

November 21st was the first meeting of the Summerville/North Area Chavurot. It was held at the home of Roy and Doris Myers in Summerville. There were 22 Jewish people from Summerville and the surrounding area. The Chavurot meeting started with a Havdalah Service led by Donna Spencer, who was aided by Kayla Carle and Sergz Santiago. We received good press coverage prior to the event from the Summerville Journal Scene on November 20th. (Click here to read article). The Summerville Journal Scene sent reporter David Berman to cover the event. Tim Carle, of KKBE's Board of Trustees was in attendance and briefly welcomed the gathering.
