The Summerville Music Club will present Dr. Jill Terhaar Lewis in concert at St John the Beloved Catholic Church, 28 Sumter Ave, Thursday, February 11 at 7 p.m. The program title is “Love Songs and Arias” and will include works by Donauby, Marx, Heggie, Porter, and more. Dr. Lewis will be accompanied by Dr. Janet Elshazly and Robert Lewis.
Dr. Lewis is an Assistant Professor of Vocal Music at Charleston Southern University and maintains a private studio. She is in demand as a performer and clinician in South Carolina and the surrounding area. She is a recurring guest in the Piccolo Spoleto Festival and has been featured with the festival orchestra. She is a winner of the Charlotte Opera Guild Vocal Competition.
Dr. Elshazly, pianist, serves as Visiting Professor of Accompanying at Charleston Southern University. For four years she was rehearsal accompanist for the Charleston Symphony Chorus. She is currently organist/pianist at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant.
Jill’s husband, Robert Lewis, saxophonist/ composer/educator , is Director of Jazz Studies at the College of Charleston. He is the bandleader and lead alto saxophonist for the Darius Ruker Big Band.
The concert is free and open to the community. Donations for the Club’s Scholarship fund will be accepted. Summer music camp Scholarship applications are available now and are due by Feb. 28, 2010. Auditions will be held in March. For more information contact Nancy Shows, 843-873-0827.
