Locals participate in ARTS Showcase

  • Monday, January 14, 2013

Ashley Ammons and Cole Cleland participated in the Applause Rising Talent Showcase (ARTS) in Orlando, Florida held at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort on December 13-17, 2012.  They were chosen to compete in this competition by auditioning for it in July and being selected by the talent scout.  They are represented by Millie Lewis International of Charleston.
This competition is held twice a year in the summer and winter and those chosen to compete have the opportunity to perform in front of the best agents, managers, and casting directors from markets big and small, which includes New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami, and more.
In addition to performing during the week, they attended several acting seminars, where they participated in activities such as TV commercials and Improvisation.  They met several agents as well as author and actress, Abbie Cobb, who is cousin Emily on 90210, and has appeared on American Horror Story, The Mentalist, CSI: Miami, Two and a Half Men, Disney’s Starstruck as well as many other roles.
They competed in five competitions: Photography, TV Commercial, Improvisation, Cold Read, and Monologue.
At the Red Carpet Awards Event, Ashley and Cole won a scholarship to the New York Film Academy to participate in one of their workshops in 2013.  Cole also placed in the top five for Teen Photography and Teen Improvisation.
They had a great experience at the ARTS.  Ashley enjoyed the Improvisation in the competition and seminars and Cole was overwhelmed by all of the encouragement shown to him from his peers as well as all of the agents he met.  They enjoyed meeting people and making friends with those from all over the world such as Michigan, Australia, South Africa, and Alaska.
To hear more about Ashley and Cole’s experience, come meet them at auditions on January 13, 2013 at the Felix C. Davis Community Center, 4800 Park Circle, North Charleston for the Summer Showcase.  Visit www.theartstalent.com for more details and contact Millie Lewis International of Charleston at 843-571-7781 to schedule an audition.
Ashley is the daughter of Becky Sweatman of Ridgeville and Bevin Ammons of St. George.  Cole is the son of Morgan and Donna Cleland of Harleyville.  They are both sophomores at Dorchester Academy.  They were accompanied to Florida by their Mothers, Becky Sweatman and Donna Cleland, and Grandmothers, Cynthia Baker and Carol P. Wagers.
