The Summerville Music Club will present a performance by Charleston Southern University’s Lyric Theater, March 23 at 7 p.m. p.m. at Summerville Baptist Church, 417 Central Avenue.
The performance will feature students from the Horton School of Music in arias, art song and musical theater highlights from this season’s Lyric Theater productions.
Lyric Theatre, directed by Jennifer Luiken, produces a season of fully-staged productions, opera and musical revues, cabaret or other scene style productions each year. Among their past musical theatre productions are “South Pacific, “The Music Man,” “The 1940s Radio Hour.” They have also staged the operas “Suor Angelica” and “Cosí fan tutte” (sung in English), “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” and “Little Red Riding Hood.”
The ensemble will perform two one act American operas, “The Old Maid and the Thief,” and “Down in the Valley” on April 15-17. Lyric Theatre has also performed on the Piccolo Spoleto Festival and has offered performances for thousands of public and private school students in the Charleston area. Auditions are open to all Charleston Southern students.
The public is invited to this free performance. Donations will be accepted for the club’s scholarship fund. For more information contact Nancy Shows, 843-873-0827.
