The Rotary Club of Summerville Evening Club celebrated its founding at its Charter Night Banquet on Aug. 16.

The club was officially chartered on May 13, making it Summerville’s third Rotary Club. It is among the 33,000 clubs in 200 countries that are part of Rotary International.

The Rotary Club of Summerville Evening plans to help local charities and volunteer within the local community. The club joins Rotary’s global network of volunteers in enhancing their communities and promoting international goodwill through club projects, scholarships, cultural exchanges, and grants to development and humanitarian projects.

At their Charter Night banquet the Summerville Evening Rotary Club presented a check for $800.00 to HELP of Summerville, a nonprofit dedicated to offering financial assistance to residence of the Summerville area.

The Rotary Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the association, awards millions of dollars each year to worthy projects carried out by clubs and districts working locally and in international scholarship program.

Since 1985, eradicating polio worldwide has been Rotary’s top philanthropic goal.  Rotary’s US $200 Million Challenge is The Rotary Foundation’s response to $355 million in challenge grants from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for polio eradication efforts.  These grants represent a tremendous validation of the approach and success of Rotary’s PolioPlus program.
