A juvenile patient at Palmetto Behavioral Health in Summerville has been arrested for assault after allegedly punching another patient.

According to a Summerville Police Department incident report, the incident occurred just before 10 p.m. Jan. 5 when a 17-year-old male patient reported that another patient, a juvenile, suddenly attacked him while he was in his room praying. The complainant said the juvenile struck him several times in the face, causing him to black out and when he regained consciousness, he placed the juvenile in a guillotine choke hold until staff could separate the two.

The complainant did have visible bruises on his face and his nose was broken, according to the report. The complainant also said this is not the first altercation he has had with this subject, who he said has attacked him several times in the past. The complainant told police he does want to prosecute.

A staff member told responding officers that the complainant and subject have been feuding for some time and on that evening the complainant apparently was “talking trash” prior to the incident, which apparently made the subject angry.

Officers charged the subject with third degree assault, according to the report.
