In the spirit of the holidays, 13 year old Megan Lehr, Youth Advisor on the Board of Directors, once again organized a charity prize drawing and auction as part of the 2nd Annual SSWA end of year oyster roast and awards ceremony, which was held on Friday, November 16.  “Megan is the perfect example of what our club is all about,” said club president Warren Phillips. “Megan has developed a passion for the Dorchester Children’s Center and this year she will be one of the elves for our Christmas Toy Drive. Megan is on the SSWA board and is an absolute sponge when it comes to learning about fishing.  She has perfect attendance and always speaks up and helps to keep the Board focused. Megan was driven to surpass last year’s figures and her efforts did not go in vain. Thanks to the support of the club members and their families, Megan was able to almost double the proceeds from last year. We can’t thank Megan enough for all that she has done for the Children’s Center. The Lehr family is a great asset to our club and community,” said Past Club President Ralph Phillips.
Megan’s efforts raised $2,207 for the Dorchester Children’s Center, Children In Crisis, Inc., which operates the only Children’s Advocacy Center in Dorchester County. The DCC provides services for abused and neglected children. These services include forensic interviews, forensic medical examinations, as well as, individual child, family, and group therapy sessions. These funds will be used to help provide Christmas for over 350 children who may not have gotten Christmas at all.
Summerville Saltwater Anglers is a local, family-oriented, fishing club founded in April 2011.  It has grown from an idea to one of the largest saltwater fishing clubs in Charleston, with over 100 members. For more information please visit www.summervillesaltwateranglers.com.
