A new year is always a great time for reforming bad habits, getting back into shape and losing a few pounds. Motivation is always key with any endeavor like this and Summerville DREAM is hoping to provide some. This month DREAM will be using January’s Third Thursday (January 19, 2012) to kick off Summerville DREAM‘s new event to get our community healthy—Summerville’s Biggest Loser. This event will provide you the opportunity to sign up to participate in an 8-week weight loss challenge. To join up you need to go to Healthy Delights located in Downtown Summerville at 110 S. Cedar Street for an initial weigh-in. You will get a free full body analysis and weigh-in. Then check back in weekly to weigh in at Guerin’s Pharmacy or Healthy Delights and join DREAM monthly at Third Thursdays to participate in different health opportunities—like a free Zumba class in the middle of Short Central at February’s Third Thursday.
To participate in the Summerville’s Biggest Loser challenge you need to register before the end of Third Thursday –8:00 pm on January 19th. There is a $20 registration fee that will go to fund the prize money at the end (the challenge ends on March 15—the March Third Thursday). Awards will go to the first and second place winners in the categories of most pounds lost and the greatest percent of pounds lost. So come on and join in as we see how much Summerville can lose as a town. Winners will receive DREAM gift certificates for use throughout the town and some goodies from various DREAM member businesses like a makeover for the winner from The Vintage Hair Salon.
At February’s Third Thursday there will be opportunities for you to participate in a Zumba class on Short Central, get a chair massage and meet and talk with other DREAM member businesses that promote healthy changes like Summerville Community Acupuncture who offers acupuncture therapy for smoking cessation and many other health-related problems. There will be a walking tour of the downtown to burn off some calories. Some of the restaurants will get involved with healthy menus to help reduce calories intake. It will be a fun way to approach a health challenge. So grab your friends and family and join DREAM for the Summerville’s Biggest Loser. We all have few extra pounds to spare after the holidays and the more participation by the community the grander the awards.
