An early morning accident sent two people to area hospitals and snarled traffic on Lincolnville Road for some two hours.
The accident occurred at about 6:50 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Lincolnville and Von Ohsen Roads, near Lincolnville. Units from Caromi, C&B, and Charleston County Fire and Rescue Departments as well as Charleston County EMS and Charleston Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, according to Major James Brady of the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.
Brady said the accident was a head on collision between a Kia Optima sedan and a Toyota sedan, unknown model. One driver had to be extricated from a vehicle by emergency responders and airlifted to a local hospital. The other driver was transported by ambulance, Brady said.
Neither driver was transporting passengers and no one else was injured, Brady said.
Both drivers were described as sustaining non-life threatening injuries, Brady said.
The road was cleared by about 8:50 a.m., Brady said.
The accident is under investigation and some details are still emerging, he said.
