Rev. Janice Mabey Appointed as Associate Pastor at Boone Hill United Methodist Church

  • Thursday, September 6, 2012

The Reverend Patricia J. Parrish, Charleston District Superintendent of The United Methodist Church has announced the appointment of The Reverend Janice L. Mabey as Associate Pastor for Ministry with Children and Youth at Boone Hill UMC.
Rev. Mabey will serve alongside The Reverend Kelli W. Taylor, who is in her third year as Senior Pastor of the congregation. “I am very impressed by the commitment of the members of Boone Hill UMC,” said Rev. Mabey, “and I am excited to be joining them in serving the Lord and helping them to grow their ministry at the church and in the community. Children and youth are our future, and I am humbled to be with them on this faith journey.”
Rev. Mabey graduated from California State University with dual majors in English and Accounting, and is continuing her theological studies by attending summer courses at Candler School of Theology at Emory University. She most recently served as the pastor at Lebanon UMC and Spring Hill UMC, both in Ridgeville. She and her husband, Dan, reside in Summerville. “Dan and I have wonderful memories of growing up in the church. We are thrilled to be called to help the children, youth, and their families, both in the church and the community, in creating their own lifelong memories and living their Christian faith.”
Over the past two years, Boone Hill UMC has experienced substantial growth in its ministry with children and has explored new ministries with youth. One such ministry is the Financial Peace Junior, of Dave Ramsey renown, in which the lessons of working, giving, saving and spending are brought to life for children through fun stories and hands-on activities. A new Peace Junior class will be offered free of charge for children ages 5-10 and youth ages 11-17 beginning September 16, 2012 at 5 PM at Boone Hill. Rev. Mabey will be leading the children’s class as a part of the church’s weekly “Faithbuilders” fellowship. The public is welcomed.
Rev. Taylor comments that Rev. Mabey’s appointment is evidence of Boone Hill’s commitment to ministry with children and youth. “Pastor Janice comes to us with a wealth of ministry and life experience, and best of all, with a heart for reaching out to children and youth in the Summerville community and beyond,” Rev. Taylor said.
The community is invited to a reception to welcome Rev. Mabey following morning worship at 10 a.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2012. Boone Hill United Methodist Church is located at 801 Boone Hill Road near Summerville High School. For more information, contact the church office at 843-873-7461.
