Maureen Markley Bense, 58, of Summerville, SC, died Monday, August 9, 2010 at a Charleston hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 14, 2010 at St. Matthias Episcopal Church, Summerton, SC at 12 o’clock noon. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Summerton. Friends may call at PARKS FUNERAL HOME Friday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock. Flowers will be accepted or memorials made to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 69 Barre Street Charleston, SC 29401 or to the Lupus Foundation of America, P. O. Box 1427, Easley, SC 29641.
Mrs. Bense was born October 30, 1951 in Miami, FL, a daughter of the late William Pierce Markley and Anne Daugherty Markley. She graduated from Summerton High School, the University of South Carolina Nursing School and was a Neo-natal nurse at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Survivors include her husband, Joel Bense of Summerville; her mother, Anne Daugherty Shaw of Sumter; children, Joel Thompson (Karen) of Walterboro, Rebecca Anne Amelia Main (Chris) of Ridgeville; step-children, William Bense (Tonya) of Summerville, Peter Bense of San Jose, CA, Andrew Bense of Clemson; grandchildren, Markley Joy Main of Ridgeville, Brayton and Charlize Bense of Summerville; brothers, Carl Reader McClary of Atlanta, William David McClary of Summerton; sister, Jessica Markley Lee (Joe) of Sumter; nieces, Annie Lee of Sumter, Caroline Barnette (Will) of Mt. Pleasant, Kate McClary of Summerton and many close friends.
