Myrtle Catherine Speissegger Jackson Courtney, 83, of Summerville, SC, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Trident Medical Center after a long illness. She was surrounded by many family and friends at the time of her passing.
Mrs. Courtney was born June 21, 1927 in Summerville, SC, the second child and first daughter of the late Charlie W. Speissegger and the late Maggie Grooms Speissegger. She and her first late husband, Rufus Jackson, had four children, the late Gerald R. Jackson, Diane Jackson Driggers, Ronnie Jackson, and Cathy Jackson Dangerfield. During her second marriage to the late DeLoyd (Toby) Courtney she lived in Bremerton, Washington, and Silver Springs, Maryland, before returning to Summerville to spend the rest of her years. She was a member of Knightsville Family Worship Center.
Surviving are her children, Diane Jackson Driggers, of Cross, SC; Ronnie Jackson (Cindy) of Cross, SC; Cathy Jackson Dangerfield of Summerville, SC; her thirteen grandchildren, Tony Driggers (Dennie) of Cross, SC; Matthew Driggers (Tricia) of Summerville, SC; Patty Peagler (Russell) of Cross, SC; Darryll Driggers (Danielle) of Cross, SC; Ron Jackson (Debbie) of Elkhart, Indiana; Denise Dangerfield (AJ) of Charleston, SC; Stephanie Jackson of Cross, SC; Tyra Smith of Summerville, SC; Christina Jackson of Charleston, SC; Tamara L. Jackson (Bo) of Charleston, SC; Misty Jackson of Cross, SC; Michael Weatherford of Summerville, SC; Evonne Whipple (Greg) of Summerville, SC; 31 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren; her two sisters Annie M. Speissegger Davis of Summerville and currently residing at Isle of Palms, SC; Hazel Speissegger Martin Bedenbaugh Houser (Jim) of Summerville, SC; her two brothers Henry Speissegger of Summerville, SC; Carroll Speissegger of Cross, SC; and her many, many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Mrs. Courtney was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her son, and two great grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, August 26, from 6 – 8 PM at Parks Funeral Home, 130 West 1st North Street, Summerville, SC. Funeral services will be held Friday morning, August 27, 2010 in Parks Funeral Home Chapel at 11 o’clock with burial immediately following in the Summerville Cemetery. The services will be officiated by Minister Jay Weatherford of Knightsville Family Worship Center. Music for the services will be provided by Roscoe Weatherford and Bobby Dixson and singers Tina Dixson, Susan Stone, and Mary Hess. Flowers will be accepted.
