Evelyn Berry Jones, 75, of Hanahan, SC, died Saturday, January 28, 2012 in Mount Pleasant, SC.

Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday morning, February 4, 2012 at Plantation Memorial Gardens at 10 o’clock. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, SC 29406.

Mrs. Jones was born August 24, 1936 in Seminole County, GA, a daughter of Ed Berry and Bessie Lee Smith Berry. She was a homemaker and a former chaplain assistant who worked with chaplains to assist the families of US Navy and Vietnam veterans with various issues. She attended Holmes Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include her three sons, Chester Zack Jones and wife Gwen of Givhans, Thomas Dean Jones of Hanahan, Edward Lee Jones of Summerville; one daughter Sheila Marie Johnson and husband Harris of Tallahassee, FL; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Ernest Zack Jones; and three brothers, William Berry, Clinton Berry and Sammy Berry.
