Patrick Joseph Murphy, 77, of Summerville, widower of Barbara Anne Murphy died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Summerville Medical Center.

Friends may visit at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville on Friday evening from 6 until 8. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: St. Theresa the Little Flower Catholic Church, 11001 Dorchester Road, Summerville or The ARK at St. Lukes Lutheran Church, 206 Central Avenue, Summerville, SC 29483.

Mr. Murphy was born February 25, 1933 in New York, son of the late Michael Henry Murphy and Katherine Wynn Murphy. He was a graduate of the Citadel and was a veteran of the United States Navy retiring as Lieutenant Commander. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis Club, 100 Club of Charleston and the Retired Officers Association. He was Deputy Chief of Public Safety at MUSC and Former Chief of Police of U.A.B. He later retired as Magistrate Court Judge of Dorchester County.

Surviving are :  3 sons and 2 daughters: Patrick J. Murphy, Jr. (Patty) of Summerville, Cindy A. Scarborough (Maury) of Summerville, Diane M. Murphy of Summerville, Christopher J. Murphy (Maite) of Summerville and Michael H. Murphy, III (Karin) of Summerville, 14 grandchildren: David, Jessica, Patrick III, Dylan, Maury III, Dana, Megan, Rachel, Rebecca, Austin, Jackson, Michael IV, Andrew and Logan, 5 great grandchildren, 1 brother: William Frances Murphy of New York. He was predeceased by his wife and infant son.
