JoNelle Nichols Seago, 90, of Summerville, SC, wife of George H. Seago, Jr., died Wednesday, January 18, 2012.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday morning, January 21, 2012 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church at 11 o’clock. Entombment will follow in the church Columbarium. Visitation will be held at the church Friday evening from 6 – 8 o’clock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Sunday School Fund, 206 Central Ave., Summerville, SC 29483.
Mrs. Seago was born January 1, 1922 in Gilbert, SC, daughter of Josephus Nichols and Hattie Vestus Nichols. She graduated from Winthrop College majoring in music, and received her Master’s degree from The Citadel. During WWII, Mrs. Seago lived and worked in Washington, DC where she decoded Japanese messages. She married her husband while he was stationed at Ft. Knox in 1944. She worked with children most of her life as an educator with the Dorchester District II school system and at her church. She was an active member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church where she faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher, Choir Director, and Organist. She especially loved taking her grandchildren hunting for shark’s teeth.
Survivors include her husband, George H. Seago, Jr. of Summerville; one daughter, Beth Seago Sabine and her husband Bart of Summerville; one son, George H. Seago, III and his wife Anna of Charleston; one brother, Charles Nichols of Leesville; two sisters, Leila Hoover of Leesville and Barbara Shealy of Easley; three grandchildren, John B. Sabine III, Nicholas D. Sabine, and George H. Seago, IV; four great-grandchildren, Connor D. Sabine, Brayden N. Sabine, Lillie Grace Sabine, and Reese Blair Seago.
