Waring, Betty Josephine Anderson Sedivy

Betty Josephine Anderson Sedivy Waring, widow of Richard Waring, Jr., entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 20, 2012. She was born in Paragould, Arkansas on January 15, 1924, daughter of Josephine Sanders Anderson and Bradford E. Anderson. She is survived by a sister Helen A. Tovey, and younger brother Robert E. Anderson and his wife Gloria. She is predeceased by her parents, twin brother Eric, granddaughter Lillian H. Toy, son Billy Sedivy and former husband Harold W. Sedivy.

 She is also survived by her daughter Josephine S. Knight her husband Furman, two grandchildren William H. Hardy (Alice), Losse F. Knight, III (Heather), a grandson-in-law Richard Toy, four great-grand children Jordan Hardy, Reagan Hardy, Logan Hardy and Cooper Toy, her step-children Susan Cosgrove(Pete), Ricky Waring ( Barbara) and Jimmy Waring. Also, surviving are several nieces, nephews, a great niece and three great nephews.

   Betty Jo graduated from Summerville High School in 1941, and attended Rice Business College in Charleston. She will be remembered most for her service to the Town of Summerville, where she worked for 28 years. When she started working for the Town, the Town Hall was just a small building behind the "Tea Pot", where the present Town Hall stands. The office was for the Chief of Police, Betty Jo, Town Council and the Mayor. When she retired she was working with the Planning Department Director in the present day Town Hall.

  Betty Jo was very active as a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, having served on the Church Board, a member of the Kate Howard Cross Sunday School Class, and Davis-Myer Women's Circle. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon, January 23, 2012 at Bethany United Methodist Church –Spell Chapel at 1 o’clock. Burial will be in Summerville Cemetery. Friends may call at Parks Funeral Home Sunday evening from 6 – 8 o’clock. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Spell Chapel, Bethany United Methodist Church, 118 W. 3rd South St., Summerville, SC 29483.
