Joan Marie Stanley, born in 1932 in St. Louis, Missouri and a thirty-five year Summerville resident and volunteer, passed away on August 26, 2010.  In 1979 she helped organize the first annual Flowertown Festival to raise money for the YWCO, now Summerville’s YMCA. When the President of Ghana lauded Dr. Robert E. Lee on learning of his death earlier this month, he was inadvertently paying tribute to Lee’s parents.
