Green Wave players named all-stars
Green Wave pitcher/infielder Pat Dolan has been named to the South Carolina Select All-star team.
The Green Wave’s top two pitchers and catcher have been named to all-star squads.
Green Wave ace Pat Dolan has been selected for the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association’s Select All-star Team. Only the 16 high school seniors considered to be the best in the state at their position are selected for the team, which will battle an all-star team from North Carolina during the NC/SC Challenge this summer. Dolan is the only Lowcountry athlete named to the S.C. Select team, which includes athletes from all classifications.
Anyone interested in what the Green Wave football team may look like this fall can get a short preview Wednesday at McKissick Field.
The South Carolina High School League changed its regulations regarding spring football practices this year, allowing teams to wear pads and run contact drills for seven out of 10 days of practice. Summerville High School coach John McKissick praised the decision, saying it will allow him to better prepare his team and to treat fans to an inter-squad spring game Wednesday at Memorial Stadium.
The Summerville Exchange Club is using Wednesday’s Green Wave football scrimmage as an opportunity to gauge interest for its newest project, providing a new video board to sit above the scoreboard at Memorial Stadium.
The club, which has served as the booster club for the Green Wave football team for more than 50 years, has arranged for a company that makes video boards to bring a portable sample of their product to the scrimmage.
Panther softball team notches first tournament win

The Pinewood softball team wrapped up its best season to date with an appearance in the SCISA state tournament in Lexington last week.
The Panthers opened the double-elimination tournament with a thrilling 3-2 win in 9 innings over Robert E. Lee. The win marks the first time the Panthers’ team has won a game in the state tournament. Things didn’t go as well Saturday as Pinewood dropped a pair of games to be eliminated. However, the Panthers have no reason to hold their heads down.
Middle schoolers mix it up in Iowa
Members of the Team Palmetto wrestling team represented South Carolina during the Middle School National Duals in Iowa last month.
The Team Palmetto wrestling team traveled to Indianola, Iowa to compete in the Middle School National Duals April 12-13.
Comprised of wrestlers from the Columbia, Greenville, Stratford, Lexington, Hollywood, Belton, Lugoff, Gaffney, Simpsonville, Fort Dorchester, Anderson, Ridgeway, Citadel, Chapin and Williamston wrestling teams, Team Palmetto took on some of the best wrestlers in the country. In the first round, Team Palmetto wrestled the Iowa Black, Ohio All-Stars, Iowa All-Stars and South Dakota.
The Shockwave youth baseball team capped an incredible weekend of baseball last month with a 3-2 win over the Summerville Hawks to take the championship of the Summerville Bash.
During the weekend they outscored their opponents an amazing 50-3. Obviously, pitching was key. Matthew Champman, Billy Seigler, Bryan Dye, Jack Buddin, Nick Ham and Jacob Presnell all had great performances. Catchers Jack Buddin and Branch Beattie also had great performances behind the plate.
Diamondbacks win tournament

The 10-u Goose Creek Diamondbacks finally made it happen.
The team had been knocking on the championship door all year and finally just decided to knock the door down April 19-20. They posted 37 runs over a four-game stretch to go 3-1 and take the first-place trophy at the Spring Shootout in Aiken South Carolina.
Saturday Fun Ride
A leisurely bicycle ride through Summerville on back roads and the Saw Mill Branch Trail will be held every Saturday in May. Bikers should meet at the Sweetwater Cafe at 103 South Main Street at 9 a.m. An experienced rider will lead the rides, which will be under 1 and 1/2 hours in duration. Safety will be stressed and refreshments will be available at the Sweetwater Cafe after the rides.

Summerville senior Stacee Roberts made a 39-foot, 4-inch throw during the South Carolina High School League’s State Track and Field Championships to claim her second consecutive state shot put title. The next closest throw was the 36-03.75 mark made by Lancaster’s Sha’Quandra Waters. Fort Dorchester’s Kaysee Sullivan placed fifth in the event.

Lesley Sweat showed James Island you can’t keep a good woman down.
The senior led Summerville to a 4-1 victory over the Trojans Friday in the quarterfinals of the girls’ soccer playoffs. With less than 10:00 remaining in the opening half, Sweat went down hard on a foul and it looked like she might have to come out of the game due to injury. However, she waved the trainer off and kept playing.
Warriors slip by Wave

Wando eliminated Summerville from the Class AAAA boys’ soccer playoffs with a 1-0 victory Thursday.
The Green Wave, which advanced to the second round of the playoffs with a 5-2 win over Dutch Fork, looked to be an even match for the Warriors, but gave up the game’s sole goal near the halfway mark of the second period. Wando’s Brandon Burkholder sent a corner kick in from the right to Luke Hogan, who fielded the ball directly in front of the goal and put a shot into the net.
The Green Wave football team has been invited to open its 2008 season at the home of the Cowboys.
Summerville High School football coach/AD John McKissick says a representative of Intersport has invited his team to participate in the Texas High School Showcase, which will be held in Texas Stadium Aug. 30-Sept. 1. Several high school teams from Texas have been selected to play teams from all over the country for the event.
Panthers earn fifth straight championship
Members of the Pinewood boys’ soccer team celebrate their fifth consecutive state championship.
The Pinewood Prep boys earned their fifth straight SCISA AAA championship Saturday.
In an action-packed, yet low-scoring SCISA title game on the Heathwood Hall campus in Columbia, the Panthers (22-2) handed St. Joseph’s Catholic School (12-6) a 2-0 loss to claim the 2008 championship.

Stratford eliminates Summerville
Senior Zach Dibble played his last game in a Green Wave uniform Wednesday. He went out with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate while also chipping in defensivly.
Second baseman Branden Millhouse led off for Summerville Wednesday night in the bottom of the first with a triple. Fortunately for Stratford, it was not a sign of things to come.
The Green Wave (20-9) only managed two other hits for extra bases on the evening and fell to the Knights (23-5) in a Lowerstate semi-final game. With the 7-2 victory, Stratford advances to face Conway Friday on the road. The Knights will need to win both games in a double-header to advance to the Class AAAA state championship series.
