The Woodland football team won its second game of the week Friday to push its record to 3-1.

After knocking North Charleston from the undefeated ranks Monday, the Wolverines handed Bluffton a 44-21 loss Friday. Woodland QB Robert Smith completed 17-of-23 pass attempts for 175 yards while Marquis Carson made nine catches for 91 yards and a score. Nagui Wright had two rushing TDs on the night.

After a slow start, Woodland trailed the Bobcats 0-7 entering the second quarter. Then Smith completed a 20-yard TD pass to Carson to put the Wolverines on the board. Martin Connelly threw to Dekendale Carn for the two-point conversion for an 8-7 Woodland lead at the half.

Dondrell Folk returned the opening kickoff of the second half 89 yards for a touchdown to push Woodland’s lead to 14-7. On Bluffton’s first possession of the half, Merrick Inabinett recovered a Bobcat fumble to give Woodland good field possession. Wright then scored on a run from 3 yards out and added the two-point conversion run for a 22-7 Wolverine lead.

Bluffton scored at the end of the third quarter, but Woodland answered in the fourth. After leading his team down field with a number of passes, three of which went to Carson, Smith capped Woodland’s next drive with a 2-yard TD run for a 28-15 score.

On the Bobcats’ ensuing possession, Kijuan Edwards stepped in front of a pass and returned it 35 yards into the end zone. Wright ran in the two-point conversion play.

Bluffton cut into the lead late in the quarter with a touchdown. However, Martin Connelly intercepted another Bobcat pass, which led to Wright’s second TD of the night. The 28-yard run into the end zone bumped Woodland’s lead to 44-21.

Tonight, Woodland travels to Hanahan to face the Hawks.
