Sting tryouts

The Summerville Sting 11u Spring Travel Baseball team will host tryouts at 5 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Boundary Street Fields, Field 5. Call 200-5721 for inquiries.

Miler event

Miler Country Club will host the annual Cuthbert Senior Cup 36-hole tournament Oct. 25. For more information, call 873-2210. The tournament benefits the Tommy Cuthbert Scholarship Fund presented by the Dorchester Free School Board.

Dolphin run

The seventh annual Newington Elementary School PTA Run with the Dolphins 5k and Mile Fun run is set for Nov. 1. The 5k starts at 8 a.m. at NES. Registration fee before Oct. 20 is $15 for the 5K and $10 for the Mile run (ages 12 and under). The fee includes a race shirt. Late fees are incurred after Oct. 20 and there is no guarantee of a race shirt. Awards will be given for the top three runners (m/f), top three runners for various age groups and top three parent/child teams (m/f). Shockwave baseball

The 9u Shockwave, a brand new team of players age 8-9, took second place in the Fall Kick-Off NIT USSSA Baseball tournament in Lexington Sept. 20-21. The Shockwave fell to the Lexington Thundercats, the No. 1 ranked majors team, 4-3 in the championship game. The Shockwave players are AC Heaton, Brendon Case, Jason Mims, Joshua Mims, Andrew Connelly, Johnny Cook, Reed Charpia, Garrett Mitchell and Sammy Casey.

Fall golf

The 2008 Captain’s Choice Fall Golf Tournament of the Tri-County Regional Chamber of Commerce is scheduled for Oct. 16 at Santee Resort Golf Course. The tournament will be followed by food, fun and fellowship during the Awards Ceremony/Business After Hours from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Resort Clubhouse. Registration begins at noon. The cost for 18 holes of golf, cart fee, refreshments during play and yummy fare during the awards presentation is $75 per person. The cost for being a hole sponsor is $50. Sting Ray tickets

The South Carolina Stingrays recently announced that individual game tickets for the 2008-09 regular season will go on sale to the general public Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at the North Charleston Coliseum Box Office or by calling Ticketmaster at 554-6060.? Lacrosse coaches

Charleston Youth Lacrosse, serving Summerville, North Charleston and Goose Creek, is in need of individuals with Lacrosse experience to coach. Boys’ and girls’ teams will be formed from youth to high school age. Call 303-2225 for more information.

Strom camp/registration

The Summerville Storm track and field team is offering fall registration. The program is for youth age 5 -18. Fee for the fall season is $60 and athletes should bring a copy of their Birth certificate to registration. For more information, visit www.summervillestorm.org.

Team Lowcountry

The Team Lowcountry travel baseball club for players age 8-15 is preparing for its upcoming fall season. Players interested in participating in USSSA, AAU, and Fletcher Baseball tournaments locally and throughout the southeast this fall should call Kris Busch at 207-0414. Swamp Fox boosters

Golf Card

The 2008 Golf Privilege Card, a discounted admissions card to participating golf courses in the Southeast, is available in the tri-county area. The card offers one or more rounds of golf at more than 700 courses in several southern states and features free or reduced greens fees.
