The Swamp Fox softball team earned its second trophy Wednesday.
Ashley Ridge went 3-2 in the Azalea Invitational tournament to win its division for the event.
The Foxes, which also won their division in this year’s Bishop Blast, defeated Williamsport out of Pennsylvania 7-0 in the AIT Division-4 championship game.
The tournament didn’t start well for the Ridge, which opened with two straight losses to 4-A teams Summerville and Irmo.
But once the Foxes entered bracket play, their opening-day jitters disappeared and they won three straight games.
“It’s nice to know that this group can take on the attitude that it’s a new day,” Ashley Ridge coach Lindsey Blackmon said. “They learned from Monday and moved on.”
The Foxes defeated Williamsport 6-2 in their first game Tuesday and then advanced to the division championship with a 10-2 victory over Cane Bay.
Paige Deschaine went the distance on the mound to pick up the win in the first game and Chelsea Guyton did the same in the game against the Cobras.
Offensively, Hayley Trodglen provided some key hits against Williamsport and Deschaine led the Foxes against the Cobras, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored.
Trodglen, Guyton and Jessi Paonita were all 2-for-3 at bat against Cane Bay and Aubrey Rabun drove in three runs.
In the championship game, Deschaine struck out nine batters and only allowed three hits to earn the shutout.
It took a while for the Ashley Ridge batters to get going, but they did fine once they warmed up.
“Williamsport was really on it early in the game and I don’t think we were expecting that,” Ashley Ridge catcher Aubrey Rabun said. “Then someone got us started and it turned into a rally.”
Rabun drove in two RBIs on two doubles. Leadoff batter Kelby Rouk went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in one run.
After a slow start, Ashley Ridge got on the board in the bottom of the third inning. Kaitlyn Anderson led the bottom of the frame with a base hit and scored on a hit by Rourk.
In the fourth, Trodglen walked and was driven in by Rabun’s first double. The Foxes then put the game out of reach by scoring five runs in the fifth.
Ashley Ridge loaded the bases with a walk by Deschaine and hits by Rourk and Trodglen. Guyton reached on a fielder’s choice and Deschaine was forced in when Paonita walked. Then Rabun hit her second double to plate Guyton and Trodglen. Ally Dye drove in the final run with a base hit.
