Jasmine Clark only spent one season with the Lady Swamp Fox basketball team, but she made the most of it.
Clark, who transferred into Ashley Ridge for her senior year, is one of only 16 players in the state to be named to the South Carolina High School Basketball Coaches Association 2012 AAAA Girls’All-state Team. She is one of only five players from the Lowcountry to receive the honor.
“Jasmine is a game changer,” Ashley Ridge coach Chi-Chi Hurley said. “She is a court-smart, playmaker who is also a leader and team player.”
Orangeburg-Wilkinson’s Nyilah Jamison-Myers, Goose Creek’s N’Dea Bryant and West Ashley’s Dekeyia Cohen also made the list.
Despite her being the new kid on the block, Clark’s teammates named her a captain for the Ashley Ridge team at the beginning of the season. She took that honor to heart and set the tone for the team throughout its 2011-12 campaign.
Clark averaged 14 points per game, scoring 311 points. But what made her truly standout was her tenacity and creative ability to set up scores by her teammates. She averaged 4.1 steals and 4.3 assists per game.
“Jasmine made this team what it is with her leadership and ability to control the game,” Hurley said. “Her teammates rose to the challenge she presented since the beginning of the season.”
Despite Colleton County and Summerville claiming the top seeds for Region 8-AAAA, Clark was also named the region girls’ Player of the Year.
