Codgers to take on Cobras

  • Tuesday, November 6, 2012

Del Webb Charleston at Cane Bay Community Association is sponsoring a benefit softball game at Cane Bay High School’s Cobra Field at 2 p.m. Nov. 11.
The contest will feature the residents of Del Webb’s 55-and-over active-adult community Men’s Softball Club against the Cane Bay High School Faculty and raise food donations in support of the school’s annual Community Fair on Nov. 17.
Del Webb at Cane Bay Community Association began its Mens Softball League in 2010, and it has quickly grown into one of the community’s most popular activities. When the Del Webb “Codgers” take on the Cane Bay Faculty, they will match up against teachers coached by former Low Country All-Star Kelly Farless.
Cane Bay High School has this Community Fair each year, primarily on its own, relying on support from students, parents, and teachers, to give donations of canned and dry goods and clothing. These items, and Thanksgiving food baskets, are given out to the needy in the surrounding community on that day.
This year, the residents of Del Webb Charleston hope to add to that effort by participating in an entertaining exhibition game with the Faculty to promote awareness for the food drive and galvanize community support around a singular event.
Entry donations of canned foods, dry goods, clothing, etc. will be collected at the gate by school staff. Festivities get underway at 1:30 p.m., so scour your cupboards for up-to-date goods and bring the family to a fun game for a great cause.
