Randall Eads will close out his high school soccer career Saturday when he suits up for the North-South Classic all-star game.

Randall Eads set a school scoring record, but he’s not done just yet.

Eads, who graduated from Fort Dorchester High School Sunday, leaves as the all-time leading scorer for the Patriot soccer team.

He scored 77 goals for the Patriots and had 33 assists. His totals would have surely been higher had it not been for an ACL injury that sidelined him for much of the 2008 season.

On Saturday, Eads will have one last chance to represent the Patriots when he participates in the North-South Soccer Classic on the Wofford College campus in Spartanburg.

He is one of only 18 seniors selected to play for the South team during the all-star game.

“The North-South game has a proud tradition in all sports and soccer is no exception,” Patriot boys’ soccer coach Rick Nobbs said.

“They only pick the best and Randall is very deserving of this recognition. He has been a four-year contributor at Fort D and has been a large part of the program’s success.”

Eads made the Region 8-AAAA all-region list three of his four years. He was also the leading scorer for the region throughout his high school career, even the year he was hurt.

He was named the Patriot Offensive Player of the Year four times and served as a team captain during his junior and senior seasons.

His coach says he wasn’t just a kid who could score goals, but also a team leader and exceptional student.

“Randall always gives 100 percent, whether he’s in the weight room or on the field,” Nobbs said. “He is a man of few words, but he leads by example. He was a pleasure to coach.”

Eads leaves the school with a 4.0 GPA and as a Palmetto Fellow Scholar who is among the top five percent of his graduating class.

He is one of only nine Lowcountry athletes selected for the 2009 South all-star team.

One of two all-star events that feature the cream of the crop of graduating senior soccer players in South Carolina, the Classic pits a team from the upper part of the state against a team from the southern half. Players and coaches are selected from across the four classifications for public schools.
