Former Green Wave standout Bryan Altman is quickly approaching the Top 10 in several career hitting categories for The Citadel.
On Feb. 28, Altman tied Josh Stackley for 10th all-time on the career doubles list when he laced his 49th two-bagger against Radford. The redshirt senior sits just outside the career Top 10 list in runs scored, home runs, hits and total bases.
In January, Altman was named to the Ping! Preseason Team. The second baseman helped the Bulldogs to a 37-22 record and third-place finish in the SoCon in 2009. The redshirt senior batted .368 in 59 games with 63 runs scored, 10 stolen bases and 95 hits, good for 22nd in the nation. He racked up a team-leading 23 doubles, which ranked 23rd nationally and 145 total bases while pouring in three triples, seven homers and 47 RBIs to go along with a .562 slugging percentage.
Altman was the 61st hardest batter to strikeout in Division I, whiffing only once every 13.9 at bats. He struck out only 20 times in 258 at-bats.
Rivals.com and Yahoo Sports selected The Citadel to win the SoCon in 2010. The Bulldogs were listed as regional contenders along with Elon and Georgia Southern.
Four Bulldogs, including former Green Wave right hander Drew Mahaffey, made the Preseason All-Conference Team. Outfielder Nick Orvin, and pitchers Asher Wojciechowski and Matt Talley also made the list.
