Several local athletes will close out their high school football career Saturday during the 2012 SCISA North-South All-Star event.
Three Pinewood Prep athletes have been named all-stars and will play in the 11-man game that pits some of the top senior players from the northern part of the state up against some of the top seniors from the lower part of the state. Meanwhile, Faith Christian Academy, Cathedral Academy and Ridge Christian Academy have all had football players named to the 8-man all-star list.
Pinewood quarterback Bobby Casey heads the list of local players named to the 11-man South All-star team. Also named to the squad are veteran Panther running back Jarrett Londergan and lineman Andrew Niemeyer ((6-2, 230). They are among only 31 seniors from the lower half of the state to receive the honor.
“Pinewood is proud,” Panther Coach Jody Kafina said. “All three of these young men are very deserving of the honor. They all were three-year starters for us and good leaders. We will have a hard time replacing them, not only in football but in basketball, soccer and speed and strength. Each one has a good work ethic and strong character.”
The 11-man All-star game is scheduled to kickoff at 12:30 p.m. at Orangeburg Prep’s Indian Field.
Faith Christian landed two seniors on the South roster for the 8-man All-star game scheduled to kickoff at 10:30 a.m., also at Indian Field. John Elvington and Timmy Tran will represent the Knights on the team.
Cathedral also had a pair of seniors named to the squad. Troy Gross and Lloyd Hayes will represent the Generals on the South team.
Chase James will represent Ridge Christian on the 18-man South team.
Cathedral’s Rick Howell has been selected as one of four coaches who will lead the 8-man South team.
