The Fort offense didn’t bode too well against the Patriot defense during the 2009 Red/Blue Competition.

If this year’s Fort Dorchester spring football game is any indication, the Patriot D will be as stout as it was last season. The D dominated the offense in nearly every aspect of the competition to finish with 57-16 edge in points.

The annual event began Friday with a bench press competition. Defenders Justin Gaillard, Tyler Walker, Keshon Flores, Geno Porter, Bradley Jefferson and Antonio Guy teamed up for the most repetitions to give the defense a five-point lead.

The D then won four out of six 40-yard dash competitions and four out of seven pass rush competitions for a 21-10 lead entering the interclub scrimmage portion of the event.

Things didn’t get much better for the offense. The D only allowed the unit to complete six passes and held the rushing to a minimal. First string QB Devron Glenn completed 2-of-6 pass attempts. Ethan Long completed 3-of-6 and Trevauui Murray completed his only attempt. None of the passes were for big gains.

Chaz Batson also took a few snaps, but didn’t attempt any passes. Rodney Gibbs, with two receptions, was the only receiver with more than one catch.

The running back position was by committee with  Ja’san Bradley, Donovar Johnson and Michael Yong getting most of the carries. None had a stellar evening.

For the defense, Gaillard had an interception and Brian Williams recovered a fumble. Flores and Antonio Guy paired up on two sacks and Terrance Henderson and Matt Henneman paired up for another.

T.J. Freeman had a solo sack and teamed up with Anthony Whaley for a tackle in the backfield. Porter also had a tackle for a loss.

The closest the offense came to the end zone was on its final drive, which breached the 5-yard line. Freeman ended the squad’s hopes of scoring with his sack.

A kicking competition was held during half time of the scrimmage. Josh Hall and Cameron Carter both hit four field goals from within 45 yards, forcing sudden death. Hall earned six points for the offense, going 1-for-2 in the kick off while Carter was 0-for-2. Michael Weatherford earned six points for the defense by winning the punting contest. His longest punt of 42 yards edged out Kevin Geddis, who punted for the offense.
