The Fort Dorchester baseball team capped last week with back-to-back wins.

After 10-running Cane Bay Thursday, the Patriots did the same to Colleton County Friday.

“Hopefully this will give us some momentum going into our final three region games,” Fort coach Jack Radcliffe said.

“We didn’t have any mental or physical let downs tonight and hopefully we can keep that up and maybe get into the playoffs.”

This week, the Fort has road games at West Ashley and Beaufort and then returns home to host Summerville Friday in its region closer. All three games are region contests.

Last Friday, the Patriots improved to 8-10 with a 2-4 mark in their region with a 17-7 win over Colleton County.

It was the third consecutive game for which the Patriots had 12 or more hits.

The star of the contest was senior Chris Vaughn, who tossed all five innings to improve his record on the mound to 3-3.

He was also 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs.

The night before, the Fort also ended its game early thanks to the mercy rule as it downed Cane Bay 15-0.

Junior Brandon Rawlings pitched all five innings to improve his record to 4-3.

Rawlings only gave up one hit, a single by Cane Bay’s Quinton Cable.

He only walked two batters while striking out five. He would have had two other strikeouts had it not been for a pair of batters who reached after called third strikes were dropped.

Junior K.J. Mattox led all batters, going 3-for-4 at the plate and driving in four runs.

Cody Hill reached base four times and drove in three runs and scored two.

Vaughn scored four runs and drove in one and senior Ke’Shawn Ravenell scored two runs. Thomas Kersting, Mattox and Ravenell all had a double.
