In the end experience prevailed.
The Fort Dorchester Patriots pulled away from a young Berkeley Stags squad to win going away, 53-13. The Pats took five of the matches via pins and a pair of forfeits in the final two weight classes.
The Patriots improve to 13-3 and are set for the state playoffs that begin next week.
In the meet’s tightest match at the 119-pound class, Berkeley’s Patrick Mestrez continued his unbeaten string for 2009-2010 with a narrow 5-4 win over Marquis Robinson. The match remained tied for most of the three periods. Points came at a premium. With less than a minute remaining in the third period, Mestrez recorded a one-point escape to take the lead and hold on to win the match.
