The Green Wave defense held West Ashley to 47 yards of offense in the first half Friday.

Summerville took a 28-0 lead over West Ashley into the half Friday on four Dalton Saunders touchdown passes and cruised to a 28-7 victory.

“They were playing their safeties over a lot and we were able to take advantage,” Saunders said. “We were able to make some reads and then make some moves. It’s nice having receivers like we do. I know if I throw them a good ball they will catch it.”

Cody Reese made two touchdown receptions of 26 yards and one of 80. Running back De’Angelo Henderson broke free up the middle for a 60-yard TD reception. Bryan Jordan hit all four extra-point kicks for Summerville.

The Green Wave (5-1) outgained the Wildcats 293 yards to 47 in the first half. West Ashley (2-4) fared better in the final two quarters, outgaining Summerville 149 to 81.

The Wildcats’ only score of the game came with 1:24 remaining in the third quarter when QB Thomas Woodhead hit Jumill Hornsby for a 14-yard TD pass that capped a 68-yard drive.

Saunders completed eight passes for approximately 200 yards. Reese had five catches for approximately 150 yards. Henderson rushed for approximately 150 yards.

Woodhead completed 10 passes for approximately 110 yards with Hornsby leading the way for the Wildcat receivers.

Neither team did a great job protecting the ball. Summerville fumbled three times and West Ashley recovered one of the loose balls. West Ashley defensive back David Campbell picked off two Summerville passes.

West Ashley fumbled twice and the Wave recovered one of the fumbles. Summerville DB Matthew White picked off a Wildcat pass.
