The high school hockey season is heating up and there will be ample opportunities to see local teams in action as the new year rolls around.
The Summerville Hockey Club will close its season with a four-game home stand that begins Jan. 22. The Fort Dorchester Hockey Club will close with a six-game home stand that kicks off Jan. 8.

Summerville improved its record to 2-3 Dec. 18 with a 10-0 win over Wando. Leading the charge for the Green Wave were Ryan Ousterman and Richard Winter, who both had a hat trick.
Ousterman had two goals in the first period and scored his third in the final minute of the second period to give Summerville a 7-0 lead. He also had two assists in the game.
Winter scored one goal in the first period and then scored the final three goals of the game. He also picked up an assist on one of Ousterman’s goals.
Paul Rattenbury added two goals and a pair of assists for Summerville. Captain Luke Moderhack finished with two assists while Tally Grooms added a goal and Christian Jones an assist.
Summerville’s other win of the season came over Stratford by a 5-2 margin. The team’s losses came to Florence, Greenville and South Greenville.
Ousterman and Rattenbury are the current points leaders for the team with 8 points each. Winter has 6 on the year while Corey Zaleski has 5 and Moderhack has 3. Goalie Christopher Alden has 82 saves on the season.
Summerville’s next home game is against Fort Dorchester at 8:30 p.m. Jan. 22.
The Patriots opened their season with back-to-back wins. The Fort earned an 11-0 victory over Stratford and a 3-2 victory over Columbia. Results from the teams Dec. 18 game in Irmo were unavailable at press time.
Jason Cliff led the Patriots in points in the first two games after earning three goals and three assists. Zack Bunde is just behind with 5 points. Julian Dipaolo, Grayson Durham and Tyler Durham all earned 3 points in the first two games. Goalie John Ribes had 15 saves in his first two starts of the season while only giving up the two goals to Columbia.
The Patriots return to the ice Jan. 8 with an 8 p.m. game against Lexington at the Carolina Ice Palace.
