Summerville senior JD Tucker is raking in the post-season honors.
Tucker, a three-year starter for the Green Wave, has been named to the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association Class AAAA Boys’ All-state Team and been invited to participate in the association’s North-South All-star Game that pits the state’s top seniors from the northern part of the state against the top seniors from the south.
“JD had a phenomenal year,” Summerville coach Greg Elliott said. “Around Christmas time he caught fire and he was our go to guy all season. In three years, he never missed a practice and he always works until he is sopping wet with sweat. He’s a warrior and if he just had better size he could play Division 1 ball.”
During his high-school career, Tucker averaged 19 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. He was 50 percent from the floor, 35 percent on three-point shots and made 75 percent of his free throws.
As a senior, he averaged 24 points per game during the regular season and was named the Region 8-AAAA Player of the Year and the Green Wave boys’ MVP.
He is one of only 16 players for Class AAAA to receiver All-state honors this year and one of only three Lowcountry players named to the list. Goose Creek’s Raemond Robinson and West Ashley’s Tre McLean also made the list.
Tucker was also an all-region player as a sophomore and a junior. He was voted as his team’s Best Defensive Player as a sophomore and its Best Offensive Player as a junior.
He was named to the Shootout by the Sea All-tournament team this season and the Cougar Holiday Classic All-tournament team last season.
