Summerville High School’s Brittaney Collins has been named the AAAA Player of the Year for cheerleading by the South Carolina Coaches Association of Women’s Sports.
The junior was announced as the recipient of the award during a luncheon in Columbia last weekend.
Cheerleading officials can’t recall anyone else from the Lowcountry ever receiving the award.
“She is a natural athlete and has the heart it takes to be a winner,” Green Wave cheer coach Saundra Guerard said. “Summerville football had AJ Green and Summerville Cheer has Brittaney Collins.”
Collins, the daughter of Jay and Lisa Collins, helped the Wave cheerleading team earn the school’s first state cheer championship this fall.
She has been a member of the Wave varsity team since her seventh-grade year and was named to the all-region team for the third time this year. She is also a member of Columbia's ACX all-star team.
