Spring sports kicked into full gear this week as athletes from various schools and teams competed.

The Summerville High School golf team opened its 2010 season by defeating Berkeley High School by 34 strokes (164 to 198) at Miler Country Club on Monday. The team was led by senior team captain Michael Goodwin, who shot 37 to earn medalist honors. Christain Woods, the team's only middle-schooler, shot a strong 40.  Sam Myers shot a 42. Taylor McInnis, the team's only female, shot a 45 to best both of the Berkeley male opponents in her four some.

The Green Wave golf team is hosting a benefit tournament at Miler Country Club on March 20. A 12:30 p.m. shotgun start is scheduled for the two-person captain's choice tournament.
