The Summerville Family YMCA will host a youth triathlon Aug. 15.
The event will take place within The Ponds development and will include swimming, biking and a running legs.
The course will take participants around the development, in the pool and on both roads and trails.
Distances for ages 7-10 are: 100-meter swim, 2.5-mile bike and 0.5-mile run. For ages 11-14 those distances will double.
“We want to really encourage area youth to come out and try something new,” YMCA at The Ponds Health & Wellness Director Robbie Smith said. “We are excited that there is nothing similar to this in the area. We hope to have a great turnout.”
Registration forms may be picked up at any YMCA location or they may be downloaded off the Y’s Website: SummervilleYMCA.org. Fees to enter are $15 prior to Aug. 8 and $20 after that date. Entrants will be capped at 150.
The YMCA is currently looking for sponsors and volunteers to assist with the event. For more information, contact Linda Walton at 871-9622, extension 119.
