Y gymnasts solid at state meet




The Summerville Family YMCA gymnastics team had an impressive showing at the USAG Level 4-5 South Carolina Championship meet March 14-16.


This year three members of the Y team won the all-around competition for their division and three others finished as the runner-up for their division. The Y Level 4 team placed fifth out of 20 teams and the Y Level 5 team placed 10th.


Level 4 gymnasts Taylor Branham placed first for the all-around competition with a 37.075 total score. She placed second on bars with a 9.375 score and second on floor with a 9.275. Kailyn Austin won on vault with a 9.425 and placed second on bars with a 9.2 en route to placing second all-around with a 36.475 total. Jordan Smigelski placed second on floor with a 9.05 and second all-around with a 35.8 total.


In the Level 5 competition, Savannah Marx won on floor with a 9.35 and on vault with a 9.45 en route to winning the all-around for her division with a 35.975 total. Anna Fuller finished with a 36.625 total to win the all-around in her division. She won on bars with a 9.35, on floor with a 9.325 and on vault with a 9.175. Julianne Watson placed second all-around with a 34.825 after placing second on vault with a 9.0.
