Two Lowcountry teams won titles during the USTA Mixed Doubles League State Tennis Championships that wrapped up in Florence Sept. 17.
A Summerville-area team led by captain Kathy Peebles won the 8.0 Seniors Division and a Mt. Pleasant-area team lead by captain Amy White won the 9.0 Adult Division.  The teams played several matches over the course of the weekend, advancing out of their initial group, winning the semi-finals, and finally taking their respective crowns with a victory in the finals on Sept. 17.
Nearly 100 teams, with over 1,000 players, competed at the championships, which were the culmination of local competition.  The winners of the state championships will move on to the USTA Southern Section Championships which will be held in Macon, Ga. Oct. 12-14.
USTA Mixed Doubles is one of the few co-ed recreational sports leagues in the nation.
