Stratford eliminates Summerville
Senior Zach Dibble played his last game in a Green Wave uniform Wednesday. He went out with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate while also chipping in defensivly.
Second baseman Branden Millhouse led off for Summerville Wednesday night in the bottom of the first with a triple. Fortunately for Stratford, it was not a sign of things to come.
The Green Wave (20-9) only managed two other hits for extra bases on the evening and fell to the Knights (23-5) in a Lowerstate semi-final game. With the 7-2 victory, Stratford advances to face Conway Friday on the road. The Knights will need to win both games in a double-header to advance to the Class AAAA state championship series.

Green Wave tennis player Brice Weiner fell just short of perfection this season, but he went down fighting.
Weiner, who notched nearly 20 wins in doubles play for the Green Wave this spring, suffered his first loss of the season during a third-round playoff match Tuesday. Spring Valley clinched a team victory shortly after the doubles contest began, but that didn’t stop Weiner and his partner from fighting like there was no tomorrow, which in a manner of speaking was the case for Weiner. He is a senior and Summerville’s season ended as the loss eliminated the Wave from 4-A boys’ tennis playoffs.
Dolan leads Wave past Knights

Cheering by members of the Summerville soccer team wasn’t enough to lift the Fort Dorchester boys over Beaufort.
At the beginning of the season, coaches in Region 8-AAAA speculated about how the competition in their region would likely rival that of any other region in the state. The competition did turn out to be stiff, so stiff in fact that the playoff seeding for the top four teams in the region, which last week were all ranked among the top 11 teams in the state, came down to a single kick.
The Green Wave earned two consecutive 6-0 victories last week to advance to the semi-final round of the Lowerstate boys’ tennis playoffs.

Once again, the Green Wave has proven that when it comes to girls’ soccer and boys’ tennis, Summerville is the team to beat in Region 8-AAAA.
The Summerville boys’ tennis team recently completed a clean sweep of its region to extend an impressive streak. The Green Wave has won its last 29 Region 8-AAAA matches. The team improved its season record to 13-3 Tuesday with a 6-0 win over Ridge View and hosted Stratford in the second round Thursday, after press time.

The Green Wave will face Stratford for the district championship tomorrow, but needs two wins over the Knights to take home the title and continue in the playoffs. Stratford (27-3) defeated Summerville (23-8) Tuesday by a 2-1 margin in nine innings to send the Wave into the loser’s bracket. The game was postponed twice due to rain, but Summerville coach Heather Tucker says that’s not all bad.
Wave baseball team advances to third round
Catcher Brett Wheeler helped the Green Wave earn two playoff victories last week.
While some teams earned blowouts last week, Summerville turned in its typically slow-and-steady performance to maintain home-field advantage in the playoffs.
“This definitely gives us the upper hand,” Summerville coach Burt Bazzle said. “Now whoever we face will not only have to beat us twice at our place, they will need three good pitchers, one good enough to win Monday and then two to throw against us Wednesday. Plus, since we will play here our guys should stay relaxed.”
