Quinn Thomas Dempsey, a former Summerville Catholic student and current senior at College of Charleston, was awarded Level II and III proficiency certificates from the Javeriana University in Bogota, Colombia. Dempsey also tested and gained a spot on the federal register for Diplomatic Security Special Agent for the U.S. Department of State. DS Special Agents are responsible for the protection of the Secretary of State, certain foreign dignitaries during their visits to the United States and others as designed by the Secretary of State. Dempsey will graduate in 2009 with a major in Political Science. He is the son of Kevin and Stephanie Scarritt Dempsey.

Mark DeWaele, a 2007 Summerville High School graduate, was named to the Deanís List at LeTourneau University ñ a nationally recognized interdenominational Christian university in Longview, Texas. DeWaele, a sophomore, is majoring in biomedical engineering. He is the son of Kathy and Robert DeWaele.

Anthony C. Egal, a 2007 distinguished honors graduate from Summerville High School, was elected as President of the University of South Carolinaís chapter of the International Biomedical Engineering Society.

Hunter Alexander Smith of St. George made the Deanís List for the fall 2008 semester at Wofford College.

Harrison Thompson, a senior at Summerville High School, was awarded an Old Main Scholarship at Wofford College. Thompson is senior class president as well as a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Bethany UMC Youth Group. He is the son of Henry and Karen Thompson.
