Festival named top 20 event for 2008

The Summerville Family YMCA Flowertown Festival has been named one of the Top 20 Events by the Southeast Tourism Society.

The annual event, held this past year March 30 through April 1, brings the Lowcountry community together by highlighting arts and craft vendors, businesses, and civic organizations while including children's rides and entertainment. Since 1985, the Southeast Tourism Society has published its Top 20 Events list. Events must go through an extensive nomination process and are reviewed in detail by the Southeast Tourism Society before the top events are selected.

"It's an incredible honor to be selected as one of the Top 20 events in the southeast six years in a row," said Linda Walton, YMCA Special Events Director. "The Flowertown Festival is the YMCA's largest fundraiser and our staff, and the community, all come together to help coordinate this remarkable Festival. It is very rewarding to see our event recognized by such a wonderful organization."

The Flowertown Festival is free and open to the public. The event is held throughout Azalea Park and Main Street in downtown Summerville. The 2008 Festival will be held April 4-6 and is presented by The Ponds, a Greenwood Development.
