Man convicted in child rape case

Brown

A Summerville man was sentenced to life in prison on three counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

Jonathan Michael Brown, 32, was convicted in a jury trial Wednesday.

The First Circuit Solicitor’s Office said Brown sexually assaulted a 6 year old and 8 year old, forcing various sex acts on the children, in July 2013.

The solicitor’s office said it presented both DNA and cell phone evidence at trial. Assistant Solicitor Glenn Justis said Brown had taken photos on his cellphone which he then attempted to delete, but investigators were able to retrieve the incriminating photos.

“These cases are always very difficult to prosecute so I am very proud of the hard work of not only my staff but also of the great work done by Sergeant Detective Jason Mosher and the Officers of the Summerville Police Department as well as the Dorchester Children’s Center,” said Solicitor David Pascoe.

The jury deliberated for only 30 minutes, according to the solicitor’s office. At-large Judge Maite Murphy sentenced Brown to three concurrent life sentences.

Brown was already listed on SLED’s sex offender registry because of an incident in Maryland. The website lists no details of that incident, which occurred when Brown was a juvenile.
