Kathleen Johanek Munson of Summerville, S.C. passed died Jan. 26, 2008 in Charleston.  

Memorial services will be held at St. Theresa the Little Flower Catholic Church in Summerville, this morning, Jan. 30, 2008 at 11 a.m.  The family will receive friends at their home after the service.  Burial will be private.

Kate was born on May 29, 1945 in Washington, D.C., daughter of Leonard and Marie Johanek.  She graduated from The Catholic University of America with a bachelor's degree in Speech Pathology in 1968 and went on to become clinically certified as a Speech-Language Pathologist.  

While attending CUA she met her best friend and love of her life Stephen "Buzz" Munson.  They married on Aug. 16, 1969.  

In 1979 they moved to Summerville, SC where she worked at Sangaree Elementary School of the Berkeley Community School District for 28 years.  She was a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.  

In 2000 she received a master's degree in Communication Disorders from the University of South Carolina and earned her National Board Certification in 2004.

Surviving are her husband, Stephen L. Munson of Summerville and two daughters, Amy Munson of Honolulu, Hawaii and Kellie Munson Mouzon (Brian) of Oakton, Virginia.

Kate will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother who always made time for her family and friends.  She was a beautiful and intelligent woman who will be missed greatly.
