The Parks Field American All-stars opened the South Carolina Dixie Youth Minors tournament in Florence this week with back-to-back wins.

Parks Field beat defending national champion Hartsville Northern 10-0 on July 19 in the tournament opener for both teams.

Parks Field used multiple pitchers in the shutout. Heston Foster put in the most time on the hill, pitching three innings.

The next day, Parks Field defeated Hilton Head 10-6 to advance to the quarterfinals. Adam Crowder picked up the win on the hill. A triple by Coda Westbrook was one of the offensive highlights of the game.

“We’ve been hitting well and all parts of our lineup are contributing,” Parks Field All-stars Manager Mike Hayes said. “Our pitching has also been solid. Shortstop Jalen West made several unbelievable plays to help us get out of some key innings.”

On Wednesday, Parks Field played the only other undefeated team in the tournament, Delmae. Results were not available at press time but win or lose both teams will advance to the semi-finals of the tournament.

Only six teams remain alive in the tournament.

The Parks Field All-stars advanced to the quarterfinals of the Majors tournament, which is also being played in Florence this week.

Parks Field opened with a 1-0 victory over Conway July 19. The Majors All-star team followed with a 9-7 victory over McLeod Park.

The Pepperhill/Wescott All-stars got out to a 1-1 start at the Majors tournament. After falling 10-1 to Hampton, Pepperhill/Wescott defeated Clinton 6-2 the following day.

Both tournaments were scheduled to be completed by July 24, but experienced rain delays.
