Summerville Little League will host a Baseball Clinic Saturday, March 8 from 10 a.m. to noon at the West Boundary Street Fields. Summerville's High School coach Burt Bazzle and Summerville High School players will conduct the clinic, which costs $5 per player and is open to all players age 6-16. The Summerville Police Department and the Tri-County Lodge #3 of the Fraternal Order of Police are sponsoring their annual Fallen Officers Memorial Golf Tournament, which will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start March 17 at Pine Forest Country Club.
The captainís choice tournament costs $60 per player or $240 per foursome team. In addition to numerous raffles and giveaways, there will be prizes for closest to the pin and longest drive. Proceeds from the tournament will be shared equally between the Summerville Police Cadets and the Tri-County FOP #3 Distressed Officer fund. The entry deadline is March 10. Registration is currently being accepted for the Superstars Basketball Camp to be held at Fort Dorchester High School June 9-13 and June 16-20. Camp for players age 9-14 will be conducteed from 9 a.m. until noon and camp for high school age players will be from 1-4 p.m. The registration fee is $75 for one week or $140 for two weeks and includes a T-shirt and basketball. The Summerville Family YMCA is having registration for its kickball, baseball and T-ball programs. Team Lowcountry baseball club has openings for players interested in USSSA, AAU and Fletcher baseball tournaments for 9U, 10U, 11U, 13U and 14U teams. The South Carolina High School Football Association is looking for applicants who have an interest in officiating football in the Lowcountry. John Peek, director of officials, said, "We have two new schools that will begin playing in 2008 and with a few retirements from our group this winter, we have a shortage of officials.
