The Charleston Braves traveling baseball teams will hold tryouts Jan. 12 and

The FDHS boys basketball team fell to 6-1 as Goose Creek's Philip Jenkins hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Gators an 87-86 victory Friday. The Patriots got off to another slow start as they trailed 8-0 after turnovers on four of their first five posessions. They rallied to tie the score at 17 at the end of the quarter. FDHS trailed by as many as 13 in the second quarter before rallying again to cut the lead to 6 at the half. Senior center Chris Dozier finished with season highs of 13 points and 13 rebounds and Dawud Shaheed added 27 points and 8 rebounds. Galen Bennett finished with 11 points, 8 assists and 5 steals. Layne Gierke scored 11 points and Mike Matthews had 5 steals before fouling out.
The Summerville Family YMCA is sponsoring free Lacrosse Clinics from 2-4 p.m. Jan. 6. The clinic, for boys and girls age 6-18 of all skill levels, will be held at the Oakbrook YMCA Sports Complex. Junior golf camp
Wescott Plantation will sponsor the Junior Christmas Golf Camp at, a new instructional camp Dec. 28, 29, and 30. Perry Green, director of instruction for Wescott, will head the camp for juniors ages 8 to 14. Green is a Class A PGA Member with a Specialty Certification in Instruction and is also a Level III Coach for The First Tee. The cost for the Junior Christmas Golf Camp is $125 per child for all three days. Registration forms are available at the club, located off Dorchester Road. The Legend Oaks Country Club tennis program will offer clinics and lessons for adults and juniors alike throughout the month of December. The Summerville family YMCA is having registration for Spring Micro Soccer and Spring Youth Soccer (ages 3-15) through Jan. 21. Fees range from $20 to $80 depending on Y membership and league.
