Summerville DAR members help at Carolina Day

Sellars and the other women signed an oversized copy of the Declaration of Indpendence as part of the celebration. “This was a lot of fun and I enjoyed seeing everyone!” Sellars said.

Members of the Susannah Smith Elliott Chapter in Summerville of the Daughters of the American Revolution helped out with Carolina Day activities. Chapter members donated food and assisted with a reception in the Old Exchange Building and Provost Dungeon on Carolina Day, June 28th.

Carolina Day is a celebration of the defeat of the British who were seeking to control Charleston during the Battle of Fort Sullivan. The battle occurred just six days before the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776.

Reception attendees included members of the Daughters of the Revolution from around the state, members of the Sons of the American Revolution, and other historical societies.
