Progress has been steady on the North Charleston and Dorchester District 2 Aquatic Center. The center currently has a tentative opening date of December 2019 according to Doug Fetchen.

The aquatic center, which cost $22.5 million, is being built as a part of a partnership between the city of North Charleston and Dorchester County District 2.

The center will be 53,000 square feet and will include a number of features. The competition pool in the facility will be 10 lanes wide and 50 meters long. There will also be a 25-yard program pool that will be used for the swim team to practice and other programs, like swimming lessons.

The retractable bleachers will be able to hold 1,000 people. In addition to that, there will also be locker room facilities, a concession area, administrative areas, and equipment rooms among other things.

The aquatic center will be maintained and operated by the city of North Charleston and will be open to the general public.
