A Summerville couple has been named South Carolina’s Parents of the year and was recently recognized at their church, The Way, The Truth, The Life Christian Outreach in Goose Creek.
The couple, Pastor Silver Mabalot and Christina Mabalot have been married for nearly 25 and have two children, Paulo and Jarah. Silver is the administrative pastor at The Way, The Truth, The Life Christian Outreach as well as a civil engineer and a founder of United for the Harvey Ministry. Christina is a pastor, writer and motivational speaker.
The couple received their education in the Philippines, with Silver attending the program for Masters in Ministry at the Asia Pacific Theological Seminary in Baguio City and Christinia earning her bachelors and masters in special education from the University of the Philippines, Diliman.
The Mabalot’s have a history of disability in their family. Christina is blind from aniridia, the absence of an iris. Jarah has aniridia as well, but has limited sight. Silver has a mobility disability.
Christinia has dedicated parts of their lives to serving the disabled community. She was also certified in Early intervention for the Blind by the Hilton-Perkins International program. She has also worked as a Consultant for programs for the VI Helen Keller International and has championed Inclusive Education, Early Intervention, Capability Building, and Disability Sensitivity programs.
Silver and Christina’s children have both gone on to accomplish a lot. Paulo is currently serving in the Navy Reserve and studying to be a dentist while Jarah just completed her bachelors in International Studies at the College of Charleston and is multilingual.
