Summerville Navy JROTC

The Summerville High School Navy JROTC in front of their Distinguished Unit award banner.

The Summerville High School Navy JROTC were the recently recognized as a Distinguished Unit for the 2018-2019 school year. Along with this award the unit was also recognized with academic honors as well.

The Distinguished Unit is an annual award, given out by the {span}Commander, Naval Education and Training Command in Pensacola, Florida{/span} to the the top 10% of Navy ROTC units in the nation.

The ROTC units are subject to evaluation in several categories including academic achievement, physical fitness, unit and military events and community service.

The unit is also subject to an inspection by the Area Manager, who represents the Chief of Naval Education and Training. These inspections include an inspection of all the cadets and their uniforms, a review of the unit’s financial records, and a {span}verification of established unit uniform and equipment inventory controls. The Area Manager also interviews select cadets and the cadets parade for the Area Manager.{/span}

The Summerville High School Navy JROTC has received this award 24 of the last 26 years.
